Scientific Director, Clinical Flow Cytometry Laboratory

The Department of Pathology at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine seeks a full-time, non-tenure-eligible, Clinician-Educator track faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor or Instructor to serve as the Scientific Director of the Clinical Flow Cytometry Laboratory. The individual in this role will lead a team of flow cytometry technical staff to provide high- volume, comprehensive flow cytometry service to hospitals within the Northwestern Medicine system as well as outreach hematology/Oncology clinical services. The Scientific Director will work with the Medical Director, laboratory manager, and operations coordinator and oversee the daily operation of a state-of-the–art clinical flow cytometry laboratory, including Quality Assurance, Quality Improvement, and compliance with CAP guidelines and all federal, state, and local regulations. The director will also oversee the development and implementation of new flow cytometry tests to meet the continuing clinical needs. Other responsibilities include maintaining open communication with pathologists to assist with technical issues, and maintaining the highest degree of expertise and current information on new technologies. The successful candidate will participate in teaching and training of laboratory staff, pathology residents and fellows. There is also the opportunity to participate in translational research.

 

Qualified candidates will hold a PhD in an appropriate field and at least 5 years of experience using flow cytometry, with a preference for prior experiences in clinical/diagnostic flow cytometry and laboratory management. The ideal candidate will have strong background in medical/biological sciences and immunology, and extensive experience in multicolor immunophenotyping including panel design, data analysis and interpretation. Excellent communication and leadership skills are required.
